The Leaning Tower of Pisa was constructed during the period of the Roman Empire. It was constructed in the midst of war between the Romans and the Franciscans. The Leaning Tower of Pisa which is one of the most visited tourist attractions of the world today was a straight tower till 1173. It started to bend because of the poor foundation and a pretty weak construction. Historians believe that the major reason for the bending of this great tower was the loosening in the layer of subsoil. Due to the shifting of the layers of subsoil, this great tower leaned towards the south west direction at an angle of 4.35 degrees. This bending in the direction of the construction was noticed when the tower attained a height of 3 meters.

In order to pay compensation to the leaning position of the tower, the builders constructed the upper floors in the opposite direction. This unusual effort caused the tower to lean in the opposite direction and in spite of all the compensating efforts of the builders, the tower kept on leaning. As the tower leaned more and more, the government of Italy closed the Leaning tower of Pisa for the general public and evacuated the residents. Engineers and best builders from all over the world the world started their stabilizing efforts in order to prevent the Leaning Tower from collapsing. 38 cubic meters of soil was removed from the raised end of the tower and as a result, the tower straightened by 15 inches. The tower was reopened for the general public on 25th December, 2001.

In the present time, Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most visited tourist spot of the world because of its unique architecture and angled design.

Kootenay National Park is located in southeastern British Columbia Canada, covering 1,406 km2 (543 sq mi) in the Canadian Rockies, and forms part of a World Heritage Site. The park ranges in elevation from 918 m (3,012 ft) at the south-west park entrance, to 3,424 m (11,234 ft) at Deltaform Mountain. Kootenay forms one of the four contiguous mountain parks in the Canadian Rockies; the other three being Banff National Park directly to the east, Yoho National Park directly to the north, and Jasper National Park, which does not share a boundary with Kootenay National Park. Initially called "Kootenay Dominion Park", the park was created in 1920 as part of an agreement between the province of British Columbia and the Canadian federal government to build a highway in exchange for title (property) to a strip of land on either side of the route. A strip of land 8 km (5.0 mi) wide on each side of the newly constructed 94 km. Banff-Windermere Highway was set aside as a national park. While the park is open all year, the major tourist season lasts from June to September. Most campgrounds are open from early May to late September, while limited winter camping is available only at the Dolly Varden campground. The park takes its name from the Kootenay River, one of the two major rivers which flow through the park, the other being the Vermillion River. While the Vermillion River is completely contained within the park, the Kootenay River has its headwaters just outside of the park boundary, flowing through the park into the Rocky Mountain Trench, eventually joining the Columbia River. The Banff-Windermere Highway, #93 follows the path of both rivers through the park.

Greenland, a massive island and autonomous Danish territory between the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans, is about 80% covered in ice. Most of its small population lives along the ice-free, fjord-lined coast, particularly in the southwest. Its northerly position, largely above the Arctic Circle, results in natural phenomena such as summer’s midnight sun and winter’s Northern Lights.

Greenland is the largest island in the world. Its northerly location, at the point where the Atlantic meets the Arctic Ocean, means that Greenland is surrounded principally by cold ocean currents, so the coasts are constantly being cooled. This, combined with the radiation of cold from the inland ice, gives Greenland its arctic climate. The ice cap or inland ice covers 1,833,900 square km, equivalent to 85 percent of Greenland's total area, and extends 2,500 km (1,553 miles) from north to south and up to 1,000 km from east to west. At its center, the ice can be up to 3 km thick, representing 10 percent of the world's total fresh water reserves. If all the ice were to melt, the world's oceans would rise seven meters.

Greenland is often associated with cold and darkness and it can, of course, get very cold. However, there is also plenty of light and, although the polar darkness often reigns (in Qaanaaq, the sun doesn't rise for a whole three months!), it is never totally dark. Greenland enjoys more hours of summer than anywhere down south, but the weather is nowhere near as warm, even though the light is much more intense. Greenland summers won't give you an all-over tan, but your face and neck will turn a beautiful shade of brown. The climate of Greenland is generally dry, and this means that the same temperature feels very different in Greenland from what it does in Europe. 10 - 15 C (50 - 60F) seems very warm, while -10C (-50F) seems a very pleasant temperature.
